SAM From 2022

Ying-Cong Chen is an Assistant Professor at AI Thrust, Information Hub of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). He is also an Affiliated Assistant Professor of the department of Computer Science & Engineering (Clear Water Bay Campus). He was a Postdoctoral Associate at Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working with Prof. Dina Katabi. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, working with Prof. Jiaya Jia. His research lies in the broad area of computer vision and machine learning, aiming for empowering machine with the capacity to understand human appearance, physiology and psychology. His works contribute to a wide range of applications, including contactless health monitoring, semantic photo synthesis, and intelligent video surveillance. Professor Chen’s research interests are Computer Vision, Machine Learning.

Simei Liao has over a decade of teaching experience at both Sun Yat-sen University (2009-2014) and Shenzhen University (2014-2023), where she taught English courses to English majors and Chinese as a second language to international students, respectively. During her teaching career, Simei has developed/co-developed and offered 14 courses on various language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, interpreting, and translation. She has taught a broad range of topics tapping into literature, history, education, and business. Her experience in course development, classroom activity design, and blended teaching via different CALL platforms has equipped her with the necessary skills to cater to the diverse needs of language learners.
