HU Ying
Research Engineer

Ms. HU Ying is currently a Research Engineer in the Information Hub at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). She has extensive experience in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and Unity virtual reality programming. In addition to winning numerous championship prizes in the autonomous driving competition in the artificial intelligence competitions, such as Innovation Works Competition, she also has rich experience in various research institutions and enterprises in China and abroad. Unlike other programmers, she is not only willing to bury herself in writing code, but also use her spare time to show her understanding of algorithms and computer knowledge in humorous language and animation, and share the results with young practitioners.

Claire Qingqing XING
Senior Lecturer

Dr. Claire XING (XING Qingqing) has more than 20 years of experience using English as a medium for scientific and technical communication. She began her career as an English teacher at Beijing Institute of Technology in 2001, teaching both UG and RPG students in various types of language courses. Her contribution to science and technology communication includes textbooks for Chinese and international students. In 2011-2012, she was the Program Manager in the Bureau of International Cooperation at the National Science Foundation of China, responsible for managing the Research Fund for International Young Scientists. As an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics (2009-2021), she taught a variety of courses such as Business English for MBA students and Developmental and Educational Psychology for master’s students in education. She has also supervised more than 20 master’s students in writing their theses. Dr. Xing’s role as Deputy Director of the International Office at Beijing Institute of Technology (2012-2021) fostered her passion and experience in cross-border education initiatives. Her recent publications focus on pedagogy related to effective academic communication in interdisciplinary contexts.

Yingbo LIU
Assistant to the President

Dr. Yingbo LIU is a highly qualified professional with extensive experience in international higher education. With a background in both universities and business, she has a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges associated with leading academic institutions, particularly in non-traditional constellations such as transnationally operated universities and those seeking transformative education.
Currently, Dr. Liu is Assistant to the President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)), where she is also responsible for academic governance and quality assurance. In this role, she coordinates and oversees the development of policies and procedures that advance academic ambitions and ensure the highest quality standards. Prior to joining HKUST(GZ), she spent eleven years at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, where she played an important role in the growth and transitional development of the institution. She coordinated and implemented the 2020 Strategy, 2025 Strategy, and a large performance-based government funding worth RMB 500 million for the institution.
Dr. Liu has an interdisciplinary educational background. She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, her master’s degree in management science from the University of Edinburgh, and her doctorate in higher education management from Peking University.
